Residency Training in Veterinary Clinical Pathology.
The Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation at Michigan State University is seeking applications for a three-year residency position in veterinary clinical pathology beginning July 1, 2018. Training is provided by four veterinary clinical pathologists who are diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). The clinical pathology laboratory is part of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) and receives over 35,000 accessions per year. The lab has state-of-the-art equipment including a Bayer Advia hematology analyzer, Olympus chemistry analyzer, Nova blood gas and electrolyte analyzer, and STA Compact coagulation analyzer. Clinical pathology residents will study and gain experience in basic pathogenic mechanisms, hematology, clinical chemistry, cytology, urinalysis, immunologic testing, molecular biology, and surgical pathology. Residents will participate in the department’s teaching programs and have the opportunity to spend time in the endocrinology, immunodiagnostics, microbiology, necropsy, nutrition, and toxicology sections of the VDL. Completion of the clinical pathology residency fulfills requirements for taking the ACVP certification examination. Subsequent opportunities for pursuing a PhD degree depend upon availability of funding. Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent degree.
