We are currently recruiting for a skilled veterinary technician for our busy companion animal practice located in Colona, Il. As an experienced tech, you are the key to our client/patient centered practice.
· You will utilize your in-depth medical knowledge and your highly developed organizational skills to manage and direct the client/patient flow in the practice. · Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will serve as a focal point for communicating with and educating our pet owners regarding healthcare-related issues (by phone and in person). You will provide recommendations to pet owners regarding the optimal care of their pets. · You will oversee and maintain medical records, which incorporates your attention to detail. · Using your in-depth knowledge of veterinary medicine, you will assist our veterinarians in diagnosing and treating pets, monitoring anesthesia, performing lab work, performing oral health procedures and surgeries, and monitoring critically ill pets. Through the use of ultrasound, endoscopy, radiology, multi-model anesthetic monitors for every patient under anesthesia, and orthopedic and soft tissue capabilities, we are able to provide exceptional care for clients and patients. Give prescribed medications, assist in performing treatments, diagnostics, and monitoring
Administer IV fluids, cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed
Anesthesia induction, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery of patients
Perform laboratory tests such as urinalysis, blood counts, cytologies
Obtain and record patient case histories
Collect, prepare, and/or submit requested tests and perform laboratory procedures
Provide specialized nursing care
Prepare animals, instruments, and equipment for surgery to include cleaning and sterilizing
Provide patient dental care, ultrasonic cleaning and polishing
Assist in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures
Stock and maintain medicines and supplies
Preparing invoices, discharging instructions, and client information packs
Give owners update and provide follow up for certain hospital patients
Work requires lifting and carrying animals weighing up to 150 pounds(with assistance)
Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position
May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces
May be exposed to bites, scratches, contagious diseases and animal wastes
Hazards associated with aggressive patients, infected animals, and controlled substances
Work days usually consist of 4-10 hr days and 2 Saturdays a month (we are open until 12 PM on Saturdays)
Pay rate is negotiable, and will depend on applicant's knowledge/experience.
