VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center, one of Southern California's premier emergency & specialty hospitals (also happens to be the largest veterinary cardiology practice west of the Mississippi), is currently looking for an ER Vet to join our family. Intern trained please apply.
The practice was founded in 1997 and moved to its new gorgeous space in 2004. The hospital itself is 10,000 square feet and offers its doctors and staff everything that they could ask for: 7 exam rooms, 4 wet/dry tables, 3 fully equipped surgical suites, an ICU, O2 cages, chemo room as well as doctors' offices, staff lounge and a beautiful conference room for CE lectures and community events (daily rounds are held cage-side and not in the conference room). To support such a varied and experienced veterinary team, the hospital also has all the latest "toys" including but not limited to: digital radiology, two color flow Doppler ultrasounds, fluoroscopy, ECG telemetry, Holter and event monitors, both rigid and flexible standard scopes as well as digital endoscopy and programmers for both Medtronic and Pacesetter pacing systems. Naturally, all these doctors and their accompanying toys could not possibly operate without an equally qualified, experienced and friendly support team. The support staff here totals around 45 with roughly 30 of them being part of the technical support team. Working here offers any candidate an opportunity to work in a very collaborative multi-discipline practice with specialties in internal medicine, surgery and oncology as well as acupuncture and herbal medicine. The ER department benefits from very little local competition and thus is a very busy service. It continues to grow and currently covers practically the entire South Bay.
Everyone at VCA AVCC is also very proud of the affiliation with Western University College of Veterinary Medicine's clinical preceptorship program. As such, we would expect anyone joining the practice to be a mentor to the final year students' education. The study of veterinary medicine is no longer limited to a university setting and we love being able to provide a cutting edge environment for professional growth to so many. On overnights there isn't tremendous interaction with the students but your paths will cross at rounds and we would expect you to want to help mentor them.
As far as geography is concerned, there are very few places in the country that can offer as much as the South Bay can. It is repeatedly referenced as one of the most desirable places to live or work. Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo Beaches are on one side of the practice while Torrance and Lawndale are on the other. The beach is just a few minutes away while the mountains and their accompanying ski resorts are less than two hours to the east. (A recent website lists Lawndale as having 183 pleasant days a year with pleasant meaning temperatures between 55-75 and without any precipitation. To check the site itself click here: Pleasant Days a Year Site)
This is a position with the perfect opportunity to enter an already thriving practice and become very busy and financially successful in very short order. Working with so many specialists and a huge, varied and challenging emergent case load should be enough to "sell" this job but that's even before any mention of the amazingly talented and friendly staff, the location, the facilities, the hospital's reputation...the list goes on forever. This is about as great a practice as a veterinarian can imagine in one of the loveliest parts of this entire country so do yourself a favor by learning more about the practice and the area from the websites listed below and then if interested apply.
