We are a well-established mixed animal practice (dairy, beef, swine, companion animal) in the Northeast Iowa agricultural community of Readlyn. We have 1 full-time owner/veterinarian and 3 part-time veterinarians and are looking for a qualified associate primarily for bovine work. Dairy production medicine is a large portion of the bovine side of our practice, but we do have a growing number of beef producers as well. Most of our beef clients are feeders but there are a handful of cow-calf herds as well. Applicant would not be expected to handle swine cases and we don't provide any equine services. An ability to handle some small animal cases would be a plus, but would not necessarily be required.
We are a close knit group with a good sense of humor and like to have fun. This is reflected in a collaborative work environment, with great staff, and a work schedule that allows for personal/family time. We are located in close proximity to two college towns (Waverly and Cedar Falls) so you can enjoy both the pace of rural practice and the amenities that the larger cities have to offer. Readlyn and Waverly are connected by a paved bike trail on a converted railway and the Cedar Valley is, in general, an environment ripe with outdoor activities. Biking, canoeing, kayaking, hunting, fishing, golfing, and hiking are some of the many activities that are never more than a stroll or brief car ride away. Excellent local schools and ample exposure to activities put on by Wartburg College or the University of Northern Iowa make this a great area for families as well.
Experience is preferred and will be compensated accordingly, but we encourage applicants of all experience levels to apply. We are willing to provide mentorship to new associates; however, we would expect any new associate to have the competence and confidence to tackle the basic calls right out of the gate without intensive oversight.
Job requires bovine reproductive palpation skills, medical and surgical duties, obstetrics, and emergency responsibilities.
Competency with right-sided approach to displaced abomasum surgery is a must.
Competency with manual bovine reproductive palpation down to 35-40 days gestation is necessary and experience with ultrasound is preferred.
Emergency call is shared.
Possessing the skills to handle basic companion animal emergencies is preferred, but not required.
Position requires licensure in the state of Iowa and federal accreditation.
Additional Salary Information: Salary range of $65k-$110k depending upon applicant's experience and clinical competency. Potential future buy-in opportunity for the right applicant. Paid vacation time, retirement plan, profit sharing, mobile unit and equipment provided if necessary.
