Creighton University, a fully accredited AAALAC research facility, in Omaha, Nebraska is advertising for an attending veterinarian. The ideal candidate must have a DVM, and another terminal degree would be preferred as well as possess outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and administrative skills and experience. The position will be a 50% effort as the University’s AV and the other 50% is a faculty appointment commensurate with research and teaching experience of the applicant. The chosen candidate will serve as the attending veterinarian for the animal facility by providing appropriate care for all research animals in preventive health, diagnostic and therapeutic medicine. This person will provide professional animal welfare guidance to researchers, staff and administration. They will ensure the program complies with all regulations from USDA, PHS and AAALAC and any other applicable agency; as well as serve on the IACUC and review all protocols involving animal research.
The faculty portion of the position is open as to the area of expertise and Departmental appointment at the tenure track level. The faculty responsibilities might include teaching courses and seminars for undergraduate and/or graduate students and/or establishing a research laboratory of their own interest. They will also have the opportunity to serve on University Committees and can choose to participate in other campus-related activities/groups. This joint position’s salary will be commensurate with the individual’s credentials and experience.
- At least 2 years’ experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine
- Effective communication skills
- Computer proficiency
- Experience with a wide variety of laboratory animals
- Knowledge of current USDA, PHS and AAALAC regulations
- Experience with animal surgical suite management including USDA and non-regulated animals
- Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine
- Active NE veterinary license or the capability of obtaining such
- Board certification or board eligibility in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine
