Thinking of a big change? Like moving to Canada? Lakeland Veterinary Clinic in 100 Mile House, British Columbia, is seeking a third veterinarian for either full time or part time work. We have a great team of veterinarians, techs, and support staff, who take pride in collaborating, going the extra mile, and doing the best for our patients and clients. We have the tools you need to provide a high standard of care, including some extras like dental radiography, bone plating apparatus, and in-house microbiology.
As the only clinic in the area, we are quite busy, and try to support the community’s needs as well as we can within our abilities. 97% of the work is small animal, and large animal work is optional for the applicant, with substantial room to grow this aspect of the practice. We book half hour appointments, have a drop-off system in place for emerging cases, and have one veterinarian daily assigned to surgery only, with a full caseload. We didn’t declaw cats or perform cosmetic surgeries before, but these procedures have recently been prohibited in BC and other provinces.
The community of 100 Mile House dates back to the Cariboo Gold Rush era. We are located in the South Cariboo region, about 5 hours North of the Washington border, 7 hours North of Seattle. Vancouver, a beautiful cosmopolitan metropolis, is 5 hours away. Two hours away is Kamloops, with big box store shopping like Costco, and an airport. !00 Mile House is a small town that services about 20,000 people. This is cottage and ranching country, with hundreds of lakes in the vicinity, a strong forest industry, and a thriving service-based economy. We have a safe, quiet town- with a strong community spirit- offering a respectable level of amenities, including a cinema, a beautiful library, two golf courses, two boutique coffee shops, two large grocery stores, a great kitchen store, a hospital and a local ski hill. Try not to combine those last two items, although it will at least be a FREE experience at the hospital because publicly funded health care is universal in Canada for citizens and permanent residents.
We are a very popular destination for European visitors, as well as people from all over North America, who come back annually for the fishing, golfing, bird-watching, skiing, horseback riding, hunting, and other backcountry adventures.
Other advantages of moving to Canada from the U.S. include a much lower violent crime rate with strict controls on firearm ownership, paid maternity leave, 3 years of extra life expectancy, and an $US/Canadian exchange rate that is very favorable for relocating to Canada. Local housing is very reasonably priced; most properties are acreages or larger, with an abundance of waterfronts as well.
The ideal candidate has a high level of competency in small animal practice, excels in client communications, and ideally, possesses a sense of humor and positive attitude. Applicants with less experience will be fully considered. We will provide assistance in the immigration process to the successful applicant.
The candidate will require licensing with the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia. Veterinarians with a license to practice in the USA should be able to obtain a license in BC (graduates of an accredited program that have passed the NEB, or otherwise and have passed the NAVLE's are accepted in BC.)
Additional Salary Information: Negotiable, starting with industry standard benefits and salary, including paid CE, group insurance, holidays etc. Full or part time work is available.
