Position Summary: To be part of the Shelter Veterinary Medicine Team providing medical care, as well as assisting with medical intake of and providing basic medical triage, for the animals at PAWS Atlanta. Essential Duties: • Performing new animal intake, including but not limited to: vaccinations, microchipping, blood draws basic intake examinations. • Triage daily caregiver observation forms and alert Shelter Medicine Veterinarian as needed. • Daily walk-throughs in the shelter monitoring general health of animals. • Monitor before and after medical procedures. • Communicating with public for foster appointment, or adoptions follow ups. (Discharge instructions, follow-up instructions to adopters etc.) • Daily cleaning of work areas including but not limited to, cleaning cages, mopping floors, etc. • Preparing and filling prescriptions for shelter animals under the direction of Veterinarian • Perform medical care including but not limited to wrapping wounds, blood draws, medicating, nail trimming, fecal tests, microscopic exams, grooming needs, etc. independently. • Administering prescribed medications, both oral and injectable. • Assisting the veterinarian in animal handling and general treatment. • Other duties as assigned by Senior Veterinarian, or Senior Management. • Data entry of medical notes, laboratory results, etc. • Schedule medical appointment with external veterinary sources. When needed, personable, professional, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative, uses tact and diplomacy. • Work requires continual attention to detail. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. • |
