Hartwood Animal Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA is currently seeking Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our busy and fast-paced 3 doctor practice. We see canine & feline as well as exotics (avian, reptiles, rabbits, pocket pets and pot-bellied pigs). We are equipped with ultrasound, digital and dental x-ray, laser therapy, IDEXX lab equipment and more. We are looking for a full-time applicant who is a team player.  The schedule does include some weekends and evening hours.  Salary is dependent on experience.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Collect blood, urine, and fecal samples and perform appropriate laboratory procedures.
• Perform all procedures associated with radiology.
• Place an IV catheter and connect and monitor fluids.
• Monitor patient’s vitals while under anesthesia.
• Medicate patients and provide nursing care.
• Perform dental procedures on sedated patients.
• Provide excellent customer service while educating clients.

 Specific Duties:

• Assist Veterinarian with appointments or procedures as requested.
• Fill prescriptions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Educate clients about basic care of pets and deliver to-go-home instructions.
• Collect blood, urine, skin, and fecal samples and operate the in-house laboratory (microscope, centrifuge, machines, blood glucose monitor, etc).
• Know all aspects of radiology procedures (proper technique, safety, positioning of patient, etc)
• Assist Veterinarian with surgical procedures (place IV catheters and fluids, administer proper medications, intubate, deliver and monitor gas anesthesia, position patient on surgery table, understand appropriate sterile techniques, provide nursing care post operatively, clean and wrap surgical instruments and supplies, and operate the autoclave)
• Direct and educate veterinary assistant staff
• Other related duties as assigned.

 We will consider active Vet Tech Students as well.

Experience: At least one-year recent experience at a veterinary hospital is preferred.

Education: Completion of 2 year accredited Veterinary Technician Program and Virginia State License.
