AAHA accredited practice located in Monroe, GA seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. We are a general care veterinary practice treating dogs and cats. We have a hard working and fun team who see the importance of offering compassionate and up to date veterinary care and would like to add individuals who share our vision.
Veterinary Assistants provide care for animals under the supervision of a Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician. Ideal candidate would possess general knowledge of wellness care and vaccines, and common illnesses. Successful candidate will be trained on: proper patient holding/restraint techniques, effective client communication, how to dispense and/or administer medications, how to take digital radiographs (must also become GVMA Certified if not already). Further training opportunities include: providing nursing and comfort care for hospitalized and boarded pets, performing treatments, collecting samples (blood/urine/feces), and processing laboratory diagnostic tests. Assisting with hospital cleanliness and safety is also required.
Requirements include: Assistants should have completed their high school diploma (or equivalent) and must pursue significant on-the-job training and as well as complete assigned online training. Assistants must learn/know and adhere to AAHA standards and OSHA requirements. Many of our existing staff members are certified in Fear Free® animal care protocols. If the successful Veterinary Assistant candidate is not already certified, they will be required to learn and apply these techniques. Existing Fear Free® certification or experience is a plus! GVMA Radiology Certification is required. This is an online certification paid for by the employer if needed.
Physical requirements include: sufficient physical strength, mobility, and stamina, the ability to lift and/or move heavy pets and objects (up to 50lbs), bend/kneel throughout the day, and stand for extended periods of time.
Personal requirements include: Must have a positive/can-do attitude and be willing to learn! We are seeking a team player with a passion for excellence in animal care.
Hospital hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7am to 5pm. Thursday 7am-7pm and Saturday 7am-Noon. Full time schedule is typically 35-37 hours per week. Saturday availability is required (typically alternating). Some holiday availability is required. Hours can vary based on client/patient needs.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with experience - range $10.00 to $18.00
