Technician assistants are responsible for performing a variety of healthcare duties to increase efficiency while focusing on patient care and client care. The technician assistant is routinely entrusted with patient assessments, recovery from anesthesia, procedures, and treatments. The technician assistant must be a detail oriented person who can make good decisions, respond quickly and calmly to crises, and maintain high standards of patient care. Technician assistants need to communicate clearly with the doctor’s, other hospital personnel, and clients to ensure that patients receive the care that they need. Technician assistants should be friendly and flexible in the face of varying expectations from clients and co-workers. A technician assistant’s focus is ever changing according to the priority of the moment. This often requires significant multi-tasking and creative thinking ability. Technician assistants must remain calm and collected in the face of emergency situations. Technician assistants must share a firm belief in the quality of care we provide and communicate this sense of assurance to clients. Technician assistants may provide training to other members of the pet health care team. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to set a good example and promote a positive work environment are important aspects of position. Providing for patient and client comfort by keeping the hospital clean and presentable is part of the daily routine.

Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:
- Provide compassionate patient care, with attention to detail, including keeping patients clean, dry, and comfortable and alerting doctor to changes in patients condition
- Recognize patients with contagious disease and follow our procedure
- Provide safe and effective patient restraint
- Ability to medicate patients
- Pharmacology - familiar with drugs and their uses and ability to calculate drug dosages and fill prescriptions accurately and asks if any questions
- Radiology – Use proper safety technique and positioning
- Surgery/Anesthesia/Dentistry – ability to recover patients from anesthesia and assist doctor and technician as assigned
- Perform basic emergency care, CPR, and intensive care as needed
- Assist with patient treatments and document
- Walk, clean, feed, and provide treatment for patients
- Set up and assist with procedures such as IV catheterization and other common treatments
- Bathe patients as needed
- Assist with patient admits and releases as needed
- Assist with lab tests as needed
- Proper cleaning, care, and packing of surgical equipment
- Keep hospital clean and stocked
- Remove trash from hospital and sweep and mop floors daily
- Laundry
- Complete medical records accurately and efficiently
- Perform technician assistant appointments such as pedicures and fluid administration
- Utilize in house inventory procedures to ensure items are stocked appropriately
- Attend departmental and staff meetings
Job Specifications:
- Must be able to lift objects weighing 40 lbs or ask for assistance if over 40 lbs.
- Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.
- Preferred: Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures and general computer skills.
- A commitment to outstanding client service.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.
- Must be able to work energetically for entire shift, sometimes exceeding 9-10 hours per day. Shift does not end until all duties are completed.
