Clinical Lecturer in Farm Animal Field Service
A full-time clinical lecturer position with a farm-animal focus is available in Field Service in the Department of Clinical Studies - New Bolton Center of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. The Field Service section provides services to a broad base of clients, including large and small dairies, beef cattle operations (mainly cow/calf), specialty niche farms, and small ruminant animals/operations.
This position is best suited for a clinically minded and academic veterinarian who works with multiple production-animal species to provide preventative and routine medicine/surgery services on-farm. We are seeking a candidate with interest in practicing up-to-date medicine, a passion for teaching, and a desire for continual professional improvement. The successful candidate will contribute meaningfully to the missions of the Field Service Section by:
- Teaching in the preclinical and clinical professional curriculum;
- Providing clinical services to multiple types of production and niche farm clients;
- Interacting with the animal?owning public, referring veterinarians, students, commodity groups, hospital in-house faculty, and animal health and productivity faculty;
- Sharing after-hours on-call with other faculty and house officers;
- Participating in intern, resident and graduate student training;
- Participating as available in clinical / production- based research, and;
- Participating in faculty governance by serving on committees and task forces.
Distribution of effort will depend upon the candidate’s qualifications, career goals, and the needs of the Field Service Section.
Initial appointment will begin as soon as an acceptable candidate is identified.
Qualifications
- DVM/VMD degree from a recognized institution
- Obtaining licensure in Pennsylvania/Delaware/Maryland
- 3+ years’ experience in farm animal practice
- Advanced clinical training and/or board certification is desirable.

- Educational and professional achievement
- Clinical experience, communication skills, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and letters of reference
- The potential for the candidate to work within the framework of the Field Service Section at New Bolton Center
- Eligibility for professional licensure (faculty or regular license) to practice Veterinary Medicine in the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware) within 3 months of their start date
- Eligibility for federal accreditation by the USDA
- Diplomate status or eligibility for board certification
