Planned PEThood of Georgia is seeking veterinary assistants/technicians for multiple open positions within the organization to include county shelters, HQHVSN and wellness/rescue/outreach. We currently operate a HQHVSN clinic in Duluth and a wellness clinic in Duluth. We also hold a full-time veterinary services contract at Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and provide surgical services at Newton and Barrow County Animal Shelters one day a week. Previous shelter or high-volume spay neuter experience is a plus but not required. Previous experience as an assistant or tech is ideal but we are willing to train the right person!
Job duties include administration of treatments, medications and vaccinations to shelter animals, assisting with all aspects of surgery from induction of anesthesia through recovery, performing diagnostics (bloodwork, urinalysis, radiographs, fecals), maintaining accurate patient records, caring for hospitalized patients, assisting with examinations of sick patients, cleaning and sterilizing surgical packs and maintaining cleanliness in the clinic and attached medical office. This is a physical job - employees must be able to stand for long hours, get up and down off the floor repeatedly and lift 50 pounds. Candidates must be able to pass a background check and drug test before starting work.
40 hour work schedule, dependent on assigned work location (scheduled as 5 nine hour days with one hour for lunch or 4 ten hour days) with some weekend and holiday work required. Minimal overtime required based on workload, and there are opportunities for additional hours at other locations within the organization. Medical, dental and vision insurance available after 90 days. 40 hours PTO available first year of employment (dependent on hire date). Starting pay at $16 per hour and increases based on experience and/or certifications.
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and less unassisted.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to get up and down of the floor repeatedly.
Ability to handle and restrain dogs and cats safely for exams and treatments.
