This position is for Veterinary Technician (Vet Tech) at the Pleasant Hill location of Pleasant Hill Animal Hospital, Duluth, Ga 30096.
We are privately owned. We are not corporate.
The Vet Tech is generally responsible for:
* Assisting veterinarians in the care of animals including but not limited to help during animal examinations and surgical procedures; stocking exam & surgery rooms with supplies; with updating patient files; the Vet Tech may perform an initial evaluation of the animals condition, clean & wrap wounds, check vital stats, collect samples & administer medication;
* Obtain and prepare lab samples as requested by veterinarians: blood, urine, ear, and fecal.
* Notify doctor of lab results in a timely and complete manner.
* Restrain animals in a safe and compassionate manner during exams and procedures
* Prepare & set-up to prepare for procedures and employ suitable and appropriate knowledge of sterile field requirements.
* Monitor recovery and condition of patients and advise owners and staff; accurately and professionally prepare & dispense medications as directed by Veterinarians including adding medication to patient’s records and appropriately billed to the client/owner.
* Know and practice vaccination guidelines of the hospital and administer all medications under the direction of the veterinarian.
* Monitor all patients in accordance with the guidelines of the hospital.
* Use hospital computer system to document medical records and communicate in a professional and accurate manner with clients and fellow workers and team.
* Responsibilities/Experience/Qualifications:
* Must possess a CVT or RVT Certificate.
* Two-year experience as a Veterinary Technician preferred.
* Flexible work schedule including regular weekend and holiday shifts.
* Must have computer skills including a working knowledge of the English language although training will be provided; must have a working knowledge of hospital computer systems.
* Must possess sound communication skills verbal and written with staff, team and clients.
* Must exercise good judgment and request assistance and guidance when necessary; must be able to manage stressful situations.
* Must have the physical and mental stamina to perform in a stressful, fast-paced, and vibrant work environment.
* Must be able to communicate with a diverse client population including those whose first language is not English.
* Medical procedures & animal handling training will be provided on the job.
* Must be dependable and able to report to work timely and regularly with own reliable transportation.
* Normal work times are Monday – Friday 8 am – 6 pm and Saturday 8 am – 1 pm.
* Must be able to lift up to 90 pounds, walk, turn and twist and bend regularly.
* Obtain medical histories, manage patient reminders; restrain animals; perform skin procedures, eye tonometry, and ear cytology; draw blood; collect payments; execute regular cleaning & disinfecting protocols; answer incoming telephone calls; assist clients & patients with check-in & check out; order and maintain inventory; execute directives and instructions of the Veterinarians and staff as directed.
