The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia is seeking candidates for a clinical (non-tenure track) faculty position in small animal community practice at the rank of assistant or associate professor.
Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and a minimum of three years of experience in a small animal primary care setting, including skills in preventative care, management of acute and chronic illness, dentistry, and basic surgery. Exceptional communication skills are required for success in this role. Certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in canine and feline practice is a preferred qualification. Salary and entry rank will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and qualifications. The promotion guidelines for this position are under review; for reference, the current clinical track guidelines can be referenced at https://provost.uga.edu/wp-content/uploads/capu-criteria-small-animal-medicine-surgery.pdf.
The community practice service operates within the UGA Pet Health Center (PHC), which is a Stanton Spectrum of Care (SoC) Clinic. The PHC is a stand-alone facility on the Classic Campus of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The main responsibility of the position is to provide service and clinical teaching across a SoC. The SoC initiative promotes training students to provide high quality, individualized care to each patient by balancing client, patient, and provider factors. For more information, please visit: https://www.aavmc.org/the-spectrum-of-care-initiative/. Participation in pre-clinical didactic instruction, service to the department and college, and scholarly activity is expected.
The successful candidate will join three full-time clinical track assistant/associate professors, a practice manager, and a growing team of licensed veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants. The community practice service maintains a fast-paced, diverse caseload, emulating the general practice experience for junior and senior veterinary students. The PHC has in-house laboratory capabilities, well-equipped surgical and dentistry suites, on-site radiology, and its own dispensary. The PHC will undergo renovations and expansion throughout 2025 in support of an enhanced SoC curriculum. The service has access to specialists in the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital, located 2.5 miles from the Pet Health Center.
Faculty assignment will be based on the candidate's interests in conjunction with the missions of the community practice program. The successful candidate will actively develop and participate in collaborative research efforts pertinent to community practice. The community practice clinicians share responsibilities in clinical service, didactic teaching, and clinical teaching of professional students.
