Join our dynamic team as a Veterinary Surgery and Internal Medicine Extern and gain valuable mentorship and hands-on experience. In this externship position, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced veterinary professionals specializing in surgery and internal medicine. You will observe and assist in a variety of procedures, consultations, and treatments, allowing you to develop practical skills and deepen your knowledge in these specialized areas.

Throughout the program, you will be mentored by our team of veterinary surgeons and internists, who will provide guidance, feedback, and educational support. You will have the chance to participate in rounds, case discussions, and educational seminars to enhance your understanding of complex surgical and medical cases.

As a Veterinary Surgery and Internal Medicine Extern, you will actively contribute to patient care, handling pre-surgical preparations, assisting during procedures, and monitoring post-operative recovery. You will also engage with clients, discussing treatment plans, answering questions, and providing compassionate care to both patients and their owners.

This externship is ideal for third and fourth year veterinary students seeking to broaden their clinical experience and refine their surgical and medical skills. About Best Friends Animal Hospital

Best Friends Animal Hospital was established in 2009 and is a privately owned company. The hospital is housed in a 4800 square foot facility and is situated on a 3 acre campus that includes a walking trail behind the building. We have a large reception and waiting area, 4 exam rooms, large surgery suite with heated hydraulic surgery table, heated hospitalization cages and a separate isolation unit. Our patients consist of approximately 95% dogs and cats, with horses, goats, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs and reptiles making up the remaining 5%. We are open Monday through Friday from 8am - 5pm and Saturday from 9am - 12pm. We currently have in house blood analyzers, AI cytology, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, digital color ultrasound, endoscope, rigid otoscope/rhinoscope, surgical cautery, digital tonometry, cryopen, cold laser therapy, blood pressure monitor, therapeutic laser, pulse oximetry and capnography. The office is conveniently located 7 miles off I-75 in Calhoun, GA. Berry College, Atlanta, Chattanooga and Rome are all a very short drive away from the hospital.
